Chapter15
The next time I heard anything about Sofia, it was through a text
message.
“Mom, I really messed up,” the message read.
“I might never be able to come back,” it continued.
The message came from Sofia’s number, but the tone didn’t sound like her at all.
I couldn’t help but feel curious. What could have happened to make her realize her mistake, something that even the threat of losing her life couldn’t make her see before?
I made some quick inquiries and found that no one had seen Sofia for quite some time.
On my way to the police station, I called Sofia’s father.
He was already drunk in broad daylight. After a long pause, he finally spoke.
“Sofia’s really something. Someone saw her live stream and said she’s a natural–born star,” he slurred.
“They want to groom her into a child star,” he continued.

“I just sent her off a couple of days ago,” he added.
“Just wait, I’ll be living the high life off my daughter soon enough…. ugh,” he mumbled.
My suspicions were already forming and the police soon confirmed them.
“The phone’s location shows it’s in Lynelle,” the officer informed me.
The police subtly hinted that her chances of coming back were slim and told me to prepare for the worst.
I didn’t show it, but inside, I felt that place was fitting for her.
No one would care about her feelings.
Her constant lying would get her nowhere there. If anything, it would probably earn her beatings.
I thought that this time, she would finally learn her lesson.
After all, one wrong move could cost her life.
