Chapter 0296
I reflexively raised my hand to cover my neck, but it was already too late.
Seemingly having anticipated my move, Nicholas grabbed my wrist midair. His grip on my wrist tightened, causing my fingers to turn pale. He was using a lot of force.
Petrified, I intended to avoid him and jerked my head aside. I bit my lower lip, unsure of how my neck looked now. But from Nicholas’s expression, it probably didn’t look good.
“Er, how long did I sleep?” I asked, only then realizing how irrelevant my question was.
“What?” My sudden question was so irrelevant that even Nicholas was caught off guard. When he finally snapped back to his senses, he gritted out, “Ariana, this is how you end up not needing me?”
I just wanted to determine how long it had been since I last changed my dressing. I wondered if my wound would be infected if it wasn’t handled properly.
Once again, I tried to reach for my neck, but both of my hands were firmly restrained by him. I couldn’t move at all,
“You don’t need to be this angry.” He still looked incensed, so I added, “It’s just a skin injury.”
“How did this happen?” he asked tersely, his gaze turning cold.
Nicholas acted as if he were interrogating a criminal, as though he would start coercing me if I refused to answer him. But how could I tell him?
“I fell while walking and I hit a rock. I cut myself.”
Lifting my chin, he adjusted my head and raised it slightly. He was being very gentle to not hurt me. He fell silent and merely observed my wound under the hotel’s dim ceiling light.
I cooperated, looking up at the light above. My mind went blank for a
sure the light was ficken or if his tam wen
tenising, and felt my heart swaying song as well
After a long time long enough that thought the matter finally began. Go to the hospital. This shot a request
Nicholas was particularly mocsing and he didn’t even give me a chance to refuse before coming me into the elevator
Watching our elevator on the elevator wall, I felt embarrassed. I felt like I was entangled with another woman’s fance. But I didn’t want this. I dcsec
my eyes, not wanting to lock anymore.
During the entire examination, I did whatever the doctor asked me to do.
while Nicholas stood a short distance behind me in sience. He didnt utter a
single word to me.
Perhaps because he was busy or his fiancee couldn’t find him, I noticed he was on his phone the entire time. I averted my gaze. Since I was here, I would focus on the examination.
When the doctor applied the medication, he was quite rough. The wound hadn’t been treated for a day, and applying the medicine hurt so badly that it made me want to rip off the skin on my neck so the doctor could finish and sew it back up…
As the process was nearing the end, I snapped back from my wandering thoughts and instinctively searched for Nicholas’s presence. However, he seemed to have vanished into thin air, disappearing from the hospital.
Standing at the entrance, I clenched my fists and felt lost. It felt as if I had been abandoned by him once again.
Frustrated, I called Douglas. When he asked where I was, I realized I didn’t even know which hospital I was in.
It seemed that I hadn’t even bothered to know where I was being taken when I was with Nicholas. It felt as if I could go anywhere with him.

Finding it amusing, I laughed, tears glistening in my eyes.
Douglas came to pick me up half an hour later. The moment I saw him, I said, “From now on, don’t contact Nicholas regarding my matters. If this happens again, I’m afraid we can’t work together.”
He opened his mouth, seemingly at a loss for words.
I lowered my gaze and added, “I can’t compromise on certain things, so I hope you understand.”
It was already dark out as I exited the hospital. Catching up with me, Douglas said, “I’ll be more mindful in the future. I will take good care of you for Ms. Thompson!”
“Thank you.”
Before I could say anything else, my phone suddenly rang. It was Pete.
