Pete was unusually quiet, and I drifted off into a slumber as well. When I opened my eyes again, I was greeted by the vast sea and a sky of dazzling stars.
I popped my head out of the convertible and lay in the car. The next moment, brilliant fireworks exploded in the night sky, their deafening sounds resembling my heartbeat.
A sense of regret prickled at me, but i dispelled it through my eyes.
I couldn’t say that I was someone who always followed through on promises. I had said many things in my life and made numerous promises.
I said I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Nicholas, but I failed to do so. I said I wanted to open a law firm, but I didn’t manage to do so either. But now, I had finally achieved something.
Since I could no longer accept Nicholas, I would bid him farewell then. It was just a pity that he was supposed to shine brighter in my heart than the fireworks.
As I watched the fireworks, Pete gazed at me instead. Visibly perplexed, he asked, “I know women like watching fireworks, but why aren’t you smiling at all?”
I turned toward him, noting the reflection of the fireworks falling on him. “Thanks.”
He probably didn’t understand me, but he was trying to comprehend my feelings.
He posted a video of the fireworks on Instagram with a caption that read, “I hope you all can share your joy of relishing the fireworks with her.”
Pete had only intended to share a slice of his life, but some attentive people spotted my reflection on the car’s roof when the fireworks exploded. Zachary’s fans Immediately began pestering me.
Pete felt extremely guilty. He narrowed his eyes, the fury burning in them made him look terrifying. I withdrew my gaze from the screen and looked up at the sky instead.
“It’s fine, I’m already used to it,” I said in a restrained voice.
To everyone’s surprise, Nicholas suddenly discarded his usually low–profile demeanor. He called both Pete and me, but neither of us answered.
The next day, a video of him making a grand appearance as he picked Jasmine up from the hospital appeared on the internet.
Nicholas was dressed in a suit, and he even brought a bouquet for her. He was smiling at her as he opened the car door for her.
Then, Jasmine’s voice could be heard. “Nick, is it okay for you to pick me up like this? I heard you and your wife just got divorced.”
He narrowed his eyes and said nonchalantly, “Now that we’re divorced, it’s all in the past now.”
Well, it certainly wasn’t up to me to stop him from flaunting his charisma. I hadn’t contacted Nicholas over the next two weeks, but he never disappeared from my sight

family began circulating.
I didn’t want to see such news, but Zachary’s fans kept tagging me in those new articles. They seemed to believe that Nicholas had hurt me since he was the one who abandoned me.
To Zachary’s fans, they thought it was only fair that I suffer the same for causing Zachary pain.
Yasmine had contacted Zachary on behalf of Jay Caldwell & Co., hoping that he would educate his fans But as he still resented me, he couldn’t be bothered and merely responded, “Please don’t attribute my fans
‘behavior to me.”
But the next day, he publicly apologized to me on Instagram. He called out to his fans, saying that they all owed me an apology.
As a result, my phone was overwhelmed with so many apology texts that it crashed.
I asked Zachary why he did that, and he said that Pete had sent him a video. I had no idea how Pete had managed to persuade Cindy’s manager to release the video of her burial.
Only then did I learn that Cindy had long since passed away.
I questioned Pete about doing this, and I didn’t sound too nice. He had made me seem untrustworthy as I failed to keep my promise to Cindy. In the end, Zachary still found out about her illness.
“If I were Nicholas, I never would’ve let this happen from the first day you were criticized,” Pete said. “I didn’t have the right to do so before, but now that he can’t protect you, I’ll do it in his stead!”
